![]() The Woodlands Hotel
Woodlands Drive, Silverdale, LA5 0RU Hidden away on the north side of the village of Silverdale, the Woodlands Hotel gets the prize for being the hardest to find. A pot holed track, opposite the northern end of Bottoms Lane, leads up to the hotel and on entering you find yourself in a hall with no obvious bar in sight. Take the door on your left into the snooker room and then pass through to the bar. Do not be put off by the pumps on the bar, the real ale is out of sight in the back. A blackboard displays what's available from a changing range of up to 4 guest beers. They also offer their own Woody bitter and keg Boddies. (Every other Monday, if you so wish, you can have a game of backgammon with your pint.) |

Silverdale Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2006. The club was officially formed on 10th November 1906 and play began on 6th April 1907. The Challenge Cup, which was presented by Colonel Morley Saunders to mark the club's inauguration, is still played for today. Ladies golf competitions began in September 1908. Except for the years of the First World War when competitions were suspended, competitions and monthly medals have continued to this day.
The club was originally, like many in the area, a 9 hole course, but whereas most local courses failed to survive the Great War, Silverdale prospered and grew. It became a 12 hole course in 1992 and in preparation for our centenary a further 6 holes were developed in 2002. Silverdale Golf Club officially became an 18 hole golf course on 7th July 2002.
The course is now a combination of rolling, open parkland with Myers Dyke presenting a challenge on 3 holes on the new section and the short steep limestone outcrops and mature trees of the original 9 hole course. This allows Silverdale Golf Club to be one of the most exciting, attractive and scenic courses in the whole region and one in which boredom never sets in!
